Goliath.Īn early unlock gives you three M15 anti tank Mines. Now, charging a battle tank with a blowtorch is usually a rather stupid thing to do, but if you are out of ammo and the team needs a hero this is your moment to recreate David vs. You can also damage enemy vehicles at a quick rate. The blowtorch is your standard equipment for repairing vehicles.
Special EquipmentIn addition to his diverse weaponry, the engineer has the choice between three tools. If an engineer repairs the tank you have to dispatch him with your normal weapon or aim your RPG/SMAW directly at him.
Aimed at the rear you only need two hits to destroy a tank while you need three from the side and five from the front. Man up and engage tanks with your RPG/SMAW close and personal. The Javelin can be foiled by IR Smoke, the first tank unlock and needs three hits which is rather bad. The last option would be the Javelin guided anti-tank missile but it really isn't an option. If the pilot has flares your only chance is to overwhelm him with combined attacks from other launchers and aircraft. If the targeting reticule says LOCK you fire and either disable or destroy the aircraft (or flares will mislead your warhead's guiding mechanism). When aiming down the ironsights, you can target a jet or helicopter and it will lock on within a few seconds. The Stinger and Igla (which is Russian for "needle") launchers are lock-on surface to air weapons. Where a grenade explodes inside a room the rocket can remove the entire front wall effectively changing the covered position to a killzone. Incoming rockets bind the enemy's attention though, and are good to clear out cover. Still, it should be your weapon of choice in the launcher slot as it can be used effectively in infantry fighting, though you might not be able to kill the enemy as the blast radius is pretty small. Targeting moving vehicles is difficult though and shooting down aircraft nigh impossible. One good hit can disable armored vehicles, two or three will usually destroy it (see below). The RPG- and SMAW-launchers are very versatile weapons you have to target yourself. LaunchersThe primary weapons against vehicles are the launchers. The idea is similar to the assault class with a shotgun and the M320. They cover close quarter battles while your launcher can deal with enemies at medium range. Shotguns are also a good choice for the class.
Any attachments you unlocked for the American M4A1 will already be available when you unlock the M4, therefore you might want to stick to the M4A1 instead of using the SCAR as an American to progress nicely into the M4. When spraying however, you have to switch to your sidearm regularly or use another primary the M4 you unlock later being a good option here. Due to good stopping power the weapon is even used as sniper rifle with the IRNV scope and bipod equipped. It's a formidable weapon for the class but suffers a bit from the small magazine size. When playing this class, the SCAR-H will be accompanying you for quite some time. The engineer feels right at home with a PP-2000, UMP-45 or a P90. Including all the unlockable weapons for every class, this gives the engineer the widest range of natural weapon choices. As you have to move close to vehicles and hotspots all the time, short to medium range engagements are on the agenda. WeaponsSubmachineguns are the weapons of choice for the engineer. Even a player who primarily uses another class will occasionally want to spawn as an engineer in order to remove a 60 ton steel problem. This class excels at many tasks with flexible equipment but is mostly known for dispatching enemy vehicles. In the combined arms warfare portrayed in Battlefield 3 engineers are a very important component.
